Russian troops are retreating from Kharkov and the city is slowly starting to return to its usual rhythm. At the same time, one should not forget about the danger of shelling that exists throughout Ukraine.
Today, May 16, for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion, surface public transport began to run in the city. Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov promised that the journey would be free, channel 24 reported.
What transport can be used
4 trams and 8 trolleybus routes. Buses will also start running.
Terekhov announced this decision on May 13 in a video message. He argued that there were no shelling for 5 whole days, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine drove the Russians away from the city. Today, Terekhov personally checked the work of transport and rode the bus.
Thus, the operational situation has become better and the resumption of transport will help the city's economy.

Transport will not be able to run everywhere
The message was restored only on those routes where possible. After all, Russian infidels damaged power lines and 35 trams. In parallel, the city will restore electric lines and traction substations in order to increase the number of routes.
In Kharkiv, it is planned to launch 25 bus routes. They were designed specifically so that residents could get where they need from anywhere in the city.
For the first 2 weeks, people were allowed not to pay for the fare, because many lost their jobs and were left without savings. Since there is a curfew in Kharkiv, as well as throughout Ukraine, transport will run from 7 am to 19:00 pm.
