In the history of Russia, there was not a single case when elections led to a change of power, – Yakovenko
There is no democracy in Russia, and it looks like there never was. This imperial inviolability lacks any institutions of power, freedom of speech and human rights.
This Channel 24 was told by Russian opposition journalist Igor Yakovenko. He also noted that Russia has not had elections for a long time, at least for the last 25 years for sure.
If you look more broadly, then neither in the days of the Soviet Union, nor in Russia – there was not a single case that the change of power took place through elections, – the Russian journalist is convinced.
Yakovenko says that elections are about the change of power, and in Russia over the past centuries and decades, power has never changed so much. It has always been riots or armed protests.
“As for the situation in Russia today, the election system there has completely degradedand what is happening now cannot be called democracy, or anything similar,” the journalist sums up.
