A group of scientists has proposed expanding the list of symptoms for the UK coronavirus case, adding symptoms such as fatigue, diarrhea, headache and sore throat. In their opinion, this will allow detecting infection at an earlier stage. Their article was published in BMJ magazine.

According to the article, it is recommended in the UK to take the test and go into self-isolation if symptoms such as fever, cough, loss of taste and smell are observed. But scientists note that this set of symptoms can determine infection with COVID-19 only in 69% of cases. According to them, if you use an extended list of symptoms, supplemented by fatigue, diarrhea, headache, sore throat, you can identify 96% of cases.

The decision to diagnose the coronavirus for a low number of symptoms in the UK was made due to limited testing capabilities and to avoid confusion with other infections, and the testing system has now improved, the article said. Scientists noted that symptoms from the extended list appear earlier.

Earlier, UK Deputy Health Secretary Joe Churchill said asthma inhalers shorten COVID-19 recovery time by an average of three days. According to her, the possibility of treatment with inhalers on an individual basis is being considered. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 4.8 million cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified in the country, and 128 thousand people have died.
