In the publication of the American magazine The National Interest, the Russian diesel-electric submarine B-603 “Volkhov” of project 636 “Varshavyanka” of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy (Navy) named a submarine with an “impressive weapon”.
The publication reminds that such submarines, called “black holes” for their low noise level, are intended for operations in shallow water and in the area of coastal waters, as well as for anti-submarine warfare.
The magazine notes that Project 636 Varshavyanka submarines receive the Caliber-PL missile system and 533-mm torpedoes, as well as modern radar and communications systems.
According to RIA Novosti, the Russian Navy received the B-603 Volkhov on 24 October.
In August 2019, TASS, citing sources, said that in 2020 the Russian Navy will receive six submarines for the first time in 28 years, including the Volkhov submarine of project 636.3.
