Indonesian authorities confirm crash of passenger Boeing 737

Indonesian authorities have confirmed the crash of a 737-500 passenger plane en route from Jakarta to Pontianak. RIA Novosti reported on Saturday, January 9.

Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said
The liner missing from the radar a few minutes after departure from Jakarta airport crashed in the Java Sea.

According to him, the plane fell into the water near the island of Male.

Sriwijaya Air could carry 59 people on board, including at least six children. According to other sources, there were 62 people on board.
