Iran begins military exercises in the Gulf of Oman amid conflict with the United States

Iran has started naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman. The agency Mehr writes about it.

They will be held with the support of other army units and will last two days. In particular, missile launchers will be tested during the exercise.

Preparations for military measures are being carried out against the background of the conflict with the United States, which has escalated in recent months. On January 2, it was reported that the Iranian Navy had increased combat readiness in the Persian Gulf. It was not reported whether Tehran's actions are defensive or indicate a possible upcoming attack. In American intelligence, the actions of the Iranian military were considered unusual.

In December 2020, the Pentagon fortified its Ain al-Assad military base in Iraq. Experts associate this with the anniversary of the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and the upcoming inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden. At the same time, some sources claim that Tehran is afraid of any sudden military events. This is, among other things, caused by numerous rumors and threats from the current US President Donald Trump, who promised to “punish” the country if it attacks the American military in Iraq.
