The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they had killed the commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, Hasam Abu Harbid. Reported by RIA Novosti.
“ISA and IDF fighters attacked Hasam Abu Harbid, the commander of the Islamic Jihad Northern Division,” the IDF press service said. Journalists from The Times of Israel clarified that Abu Harbid was liquidated as a result of an airstrike on his home in Gaza.
According to the IDF, Abu Harbid, who commanded the northern unit of a terrorist group in the Gaza Strip, led attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians for nearly 15 years. He is also believed to be directly responsible for the shelling that injured an Israeli civilian last week.
The army also reported that air-raid sirens went off in the Israeli city of Beersheba shortly after the announcement of the elimination of Abu Harbid. Islamic Jihad has not yet commented on the attack on its commander.
Earlier, the Israeli authorities announced the largest number of attacks in the history of the country: it was claimed that the Palestinian movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad over the past seven days fired more than three thousand rockets at Israel.
Israel and Palestinian factions have been conducting mutual missile attacks since May 10. As a result of massive attacks and clashes, at least 200 people were killed, and about 600 more were wounded. In this case, there may be even more victims.
