The Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-16 with three crew members landed in the Kazakh steppe southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan. The broadcast was conducted on the Roscosmos website.
The manned transport vehicle undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) at 02:32 Moscow time and returned safely to Earth at 05:54. All operations on descent from low-earth orbit and landing were carried out in the normal mode. The state of health of the cosmonauts of “Roscosmos” Anatoly Ivanishin, Ivan Wagner and NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy is good.
Russian cosmonauts will be delivered by special board to the Chkalovsky airfield (Moscow region). For several weeks they will be in the Complex for prelaunch training and post-flight rehabilitation of cosmonauts in Star City, and their health will be monitored by doctors.
“Congratulations to the crew on their return to Earth, and to the members of the State Commission for Flight Testing of Manned Complexes – on the successful completion of another manned mission!” – said Dmitry Rogozin, General Director of the State Corporation Roscosmos.
The Russians Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov with the American Kathleen Rubins remained on the ISS.
On October 19, Ivanishin informed the mission control center specialist about a series of problems on the ISS. According to him, the system for obtaining oxygen “Electron-VM” was out of order at the station, a vacuum cleaner started to smoke, and a light bulb came on in the toilet, warning of a poor-quality preservative.
Recently, emergency situations have become more frequent on the ISS. So, on October 11, a toilet in the Russian segment was already breaking, it took a day to fix it. Electron-VM had been out of order only four days before.
In addition, the astronauts faced an air leak. The hole could not be found for a long time, options with cotton wool and tea bags were offered to search for it. On October 15, the leak was found, the crack reaches two to four centimeters, it was sealed with Kapton tape.
