In the Kherson region, Russian invaders are planning to conduct a population census. The same situation was in the temporarily occupied Crimea in 2014.

In particular, preparations began in the Genichesk district of the Kherson region. This was announced by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

Thus, according to Denisova, residents of the Genichesk district began to receive messages urging them to apply to the village council with documents . passport, identification code, birth certificate of children, pension certificate, identity card with a disability.

At the same time, the ads note that this applies only to those who have a local residence permit.

According to the information received, the “census” is scheduled to begin on May 16 and be completed by the end of the month.

I appeal to the UN Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights Violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of human rights violations. I note that any scenarios and manipulations of the occupiers and collaborators with the “status” of the Kherson region are legally and politically insignificant, Denisova wrote.

She also added that the Russian invaders are considering various options for the “status” of the temporarily occupied territories, in particular, among them the creation of the so-called Crimean federal district. In the Kherson region, most likely, such steps are being taken against the backdrop of an unsuccessful “referendum”.
