Klitschko threatened the people of Kiev with a stop of public transport

The mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko threatened the townspeople with a complete stop of public transport if they did not use it only in case of emergency, writes “Strana.ua”.

According to the mayor, he sees huge queues every day in the metro, trams and buses, despite the fact that the authorities have introduced a strict quarantine regime in the city. He emphasized that, unlike his regulations in the spring of 2020, he decided not to restrict traffic for the smooth functioning of the most important city enterprises, but he could tighten the requirements if the townspeople continue to use it for personal purposes.

“The crowds in transport are, I believe, the irresponsibility of those people who do not follow the recommendations and ignore the rules that pretend that our situation is normal and there is no virus,” Klitschko said.

He stressed that if the situation deteriorates in Kiev, special passes will be introduced and police squads will be strengthened to prevent citizens from going out into the street outside of regulated cases. “Both the authorities and the government will make a decision on stopping public transport in the capital. Then there will be a very tough lockdown, ”the mayor added.

Earlier, the deputy head of Kiev, Volodymyr Bondarenko, said that city hospitals had run out of beds for receiving a patient with coronavirus. He admitted that new patients are being accommodated in corridors and rejected the possibility of transporting them to neighboring regions.

According to the latest data, more than 1.6 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in Ukraine. On March 4, the government announced the beginning of the third wave of the spread of the infection. In Kiev, for the period from March 20 to April 9, a total quarantine regime was introduced.
