Rapid sports director Zoki Barisic
The next endurance test! Today Rapid will host Sturm Graz in their home league game. How tight is coach Didi Kühbauer in the saddle? Zoran Barisic comments.
After four competitive games without a win, Rapid returned to winning ways in the second round of the Cup. In the 2: 1 against Admira, however, Rapid had to go into extra time, where only a Grüll-Elfertor made it into the round of 16 – a liberation blow looks different.
Today (5 p.m.) the next difficult task awaits in the league home game against Sturm. “We know what it's like at Rapid when the results aren't right,” said sports director Zoran Barisic before the match. Of course, there is also the question of how firmly coach Didi Kühbauer is still in the saddle.
“Everything I say now will be used against me,” said the sports director. “Everyone would interpret something into it. We will continue to work with the utmost confidence.” So there is neither an ultimatum nor demonstrative support. But success is a must. “The team has proven many times that they can do it. Even under Didi. I assume that they will manage the turnaround.”
According to Barisic, one of the reasons for the problems is the disappointed expectations of some players such as Fountas or Kara in the transfer period. That causes problems on the pitch. Regarding today's home game, Barisic said: “Football is not as complicated as we are. I just often have the feeling that you are not looking for the better positioned player, that some are selfish when the processes are not right.”
His demand to the team: “We need looseness, trust. The team must act as a unit, go over the point.” And not just against storms. On Thursday, the group favorite awaits in the Europa League with Premier League club West Ham.
