Jeffrey Sachs, chairman of the commission on coronavirus infection of the medical journal The Lancet and professor at Columbia University, announced the disbandment of a group of scientists who were studying the origin of covid-19.
According to The Wall Street Journal, this decision was made due to the ties of its members with the American organization EcoHealth Alliance, which collaborated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“I just didn’t want the working group to have such clear connections with one of the main points of this whole study of the origin of the virus, which was the EcoHealth Alliance,” the newspaper quoted Sachs as saying. He also talked about plans to publish a report on the results of work in 2022.
Organization EcoHealth Alliance, as the newspaper notes, used American funds to study covid in bats in conjunction with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is located in the city where the first outbreak of covid-19 occurred.
