Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to take retaliatory measures against Western countries if it does not receive a response from the United States and NATO on security guarantees. He stated this during a speech in the State Duma.

The diplomat stressed that Russia will not allow the discussion to be “wrapped up” and will take retaliatory measures to aggressive actions of Western countries if it does not see a written response to its proposals.

If a response is received, the Foreign Ministry and other agencies will prepare proposals for further steps for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Lavrov recalled that a response from Washington is expected this week. Depending on its content, decisions will be made on further actions and appropriate recommendations will be developed.

The information that the answers will be provided this week was confirmed in the United States and NATO.
