Leopard stocks in Europe: how many other countries have the tanks needed for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Polish government has taken the first step in handing over Leopard tanks to Ukraine. However, a significant number of European states have a sufficient amount of such military equipment.
Andreas Umland, an analyst at the Stockholm Center for Eastern European Studies, told Channel 24 about this. According to him, it is not yet known what exact number of Leopards the Ukrainian military will be able to get to destroy the Russians on their land.
Who has Leopard tanks
Andreas Umland noted that there are indeed enough Leopard tanks not only in Poland.
There are 13 countries that have Leopard 2 tanks and could transfer part of the tanks to Ukraine,” he commented.
According to him, most of all Leopard is in Europe. However, the countries that own such tanks can not only share equipment.
“There is also the possibility of repair and service for these tanks,” the analyst emphasized.
So the prospects for Ukraine are really great.

Will Germany hand over the tanks
The analyst added that presumably the next initiative to transfer tanks to the Ukrainian army could be taken up by Germany. However, there is one caveat.
“Germany itself doesn't have that many tanks – it has about 300 tanks,” he explained.
Andreas Umland stressed that therefore it is not yet possible to predict the exact amount of equipment that Germany is ready to transfer to Ukraine.
However, the prospects for obtaining weapons from European allied countries are great.
I hope that there will be several countries that will coordinate everything together and there will be a collective transfer of tanks,” the analyst noted.
He drew attention to the fact that Leopard 2 is the type of tank that would be most useful to Ukraine.

Ukraine will receive tanks: what is known
- During a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Lviv, Andrzej Duda said that Kyiv would receive a “company of tanks” Leopard 2 from Warsaw as part of an international coalition.
- Kyiv has been asking for this Western equipment for a long time, because it can significantly enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The fact is that the Leopard is a head taller than the tanks that Russia uses.
- The Ukrainian army will be able to prepare for the use of tanks within a few weeks. The process itself is no more difficult than preparing an ACS.
