The UK has planned to spend £ 1.2 million (about 121 million rubles) on building ties with Russian youth in 2019-2021. RT writes about this with reference to the publicly available financial plan of the government organization Global Britain Fund.
At the same time, according to the plan, the largest amounts were to be allocated to stable ties with Russian students, the promotion of cultural values, as well as the formation of a “new generation of young leaders.”
According to the agency, in 2019-2020 alone, it was planned to spend about 760 thousand euros on the formation of such “stable ties.” And £ 78,000 was supposed to finance “the expansion of the Russian-Western network of young professionals, uniting specialists in the field of civil society, security, economics and the rule of law.”
The experts interviewed by the publication drew attention to the fact that the UK had previously quite often tried to reduce Russian influence in the international arena under the guise of “building bridges.” At the same time, according to them, it is important to understand the difference between cultural interaction and interference in domestic politics.
“If the goal of such projects is to develop cultural sympathy for the UK among foreign youth, then no questions arise. However, it is completely unacceptable when professional oppositionists, and sometimes extremists, are raised at the expense of the British government, ”stressed Pavel Feldman, deputy head of the RUDN Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts, a specialist in international relations.
Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, an expert on foreign policy Evgenia Voiko is sure that young people are the most suitable audience for forming loyalty and providing hidden influence.
“In the context of international programs, this is a grateful audience that is easier to work with,” she said.
Official London declined to comment on this data breach.
Earlier, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced the creation of the headquarters of the National Cyber Forces, where by 2030 it is planned to hire “thousands of hackers and analysts.” According to the minister, the UK intends to conduct “offensive” cyberattacks against hostile states such as Russia, in response to attempts to harm the country.
At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Defense expressed confidence that the country also needs to be able to launch attacks against critical infrastructure of the enemy.
