Malware disguised as ransomware was found in the computer systems of a number of state institutions in Ukraine. This was told by representatives of Microsoft, reports RIA Novosti.
“Today we announce that we have detected destructive malware on systems belonging to a number of Ukrainian government agencies and organizations that work closely with the government of Ukraine,” Microsoft said in a statement. It is noted that if activated, the software can disable the infected computer system.
At the moment, it is established who may be responsible for infecting computers. Microsoft has not identified significant similarities between the unique characteristics of the cybercriminal group behind these attacks and the groups that the company typically monitors.
On January 14, the FSB announced the defeat of the REvil hacker group, which sent out viruses to extort money. The activities of the criminal community were stopped after the appeal of the US authorities. In Washington, they talked about the involvement of the leader of the group in attacks on the information resources of foreign companies through the introduction of malware.
