The American corporation Microsoft announced plans in 2022 to change the default font in the Office suite. Since 2007, the default font in Office is Calibri.
Microsoft has commissioned five new fonts in different styles that have already been added in the Microsoft 365 update. The new fonts are Tenorite, Bierstadt, Skeena, Seaford, and Grandview. The company plans to collect feedback from users and subsequently install one of them as the default font in 2022.
Tenorite is a modernized version of Times New Roman. Bierstadt's creators took inspiration from 20th century Swiss typography, and the design is somewhat similar to Helvetica. Seaford is based on classic old styles and is the most recognizable and familiar of new products. Skeena has been called a “humanist” typeface with a large difference between the thickness of the thin and thick parts of the letter. The authors of Grandview were inspired by classic German road and rail signs for improved readability at a distance and in poor conditions.
