Military expert explained whether it is possible to install Western missiles on Ukrainian MiG-29 aircraft
Slovakia and Poland may transfer several of their own MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. Now the US military is studying whether it is possible to install AIM-120 medium-range air-to-air missiles on these sides.
Military expert Pavel Narozhny told Channel 24 about this. According to him, earlier it was already possible to integrate some Western weapons into Soviet MiG-29 aircraft.
Is it possible to install air-to-air missiles on the MiG-29
As Narozhny recalled, recently there was information that two Ukrainian pilots went to the United States for training. One of the versions was that, based on the knowledge of these pilots, a training program for the F-16 would be formed. The other is that they came to the base, where they are studying the possibility of additional conversion of old aircraft.
Previously, the military was able to integrate the HARM anti-radar missile on the MiG-29. They did it in the original way.
The rocket is placed on a special pylon. And the pilot controls it from the cockpit via bluetooth through a tablet with the appropriate software. He enters different coordinates and other data there, and the rocket flies where it is needed,” Narozhny said.
He is confident that with air-to-air missiles they will come up with some similar solution. If this can be done, then Ukrainian pilots will get much more opportunities to defeat enemy aircraft.
Ukraine may receive aircraft from Poland and Slovakia
- Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda noted that Warsaw is ready to transfer MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. But they will do it only within the framework of an international coalition.
- Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy confirmed that Poland is ready to hand over the planes. Therefore, Bratislava needs to become more active and transfer them together with Warsaw.
- Military expert Roman Svitan stressed that the Slovak and Polish MiG-29s will be on combat duty in Ukraine very soon after the transfer.
