Military Knowledge Day: how schoolchildren and students were congratulated on September 1
This year the Knowledge Day in Ukraine has the status of “military”. However, knowledge is light, and therefore, despite the war, Ukrainian children continue their education.
It is important that education continues
The top and military leadership of the state congratulated the Ukrainian students on September 1st. In particular, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that it is important that education continues and that knowledge about Ukraine is not interrupted.
In particular, the President noted that “everyone starts this academic year in different ways.”
Someone away from home – in other regions of Ukraine. Someone away from home – in other countries. Who remotely, in an online format. Someone in their home school or at their university, but still not at ease. However, it is important that the school year begins. It is important that learning continues. And that knowledge about Ukraine is not interrupted,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.
The President also could not help but recall that the Russian invaders destroyed dozens of universities, hundreds of schools and kindergartens throughout Ukraine.

“They tried to leave us without our past, history, culture, knowledge. But they did not succeed. We continue to live. We develop and develop, learn new things, learn and grow stronger. And most importantly, we are building our Ukrainian future. Free and independent ” , Zelensky added.
The First Lady congratulated all Ukrainians on this day
Olena Zelenska published a poignant video greeting, where she noted that when children study, our country wins, because it is stronger than knowledge and dreams.
The First Lady also noted that this holiday is important for all Ukrainians, because the Ukrainian First Bell could not have happened.
Ukrainian school where Lesya and Franko study. Lessons of the native language and native land. There might not be a history of Ukraine. At least, that’s how we were threatened in February… And today we are celebrating Ukrainian September 1,” Olena Zelenska said.
But she thanked the defenders, thanks to whom, even in part of the schools, this bell will sound live.
25 thousand first-graders sat down at their desks in the capital
Mayor of Kyiv Volodymyr Zelensky, in addition to congratulating on the Day of Knowledge, said that this year, on September 1, 25,000 first-graders sat down at desks in Kyiv schools. While in recent years there were 30,000 of them in the capital.
According to the mayor, the main efforts in the capital were focused on ensuring that it was the primary school students who began their education full-time, in schools, because for them it is very important.
In total, 138,000 students chose offline learning in Kyiv. The rest will study online or individually.
An educated nation is an invincible nation
The country's Prime Minister Denys Shmihal emphasized that, despite the war, it is very important that children return to study in Ukrainian schools, study and explore all facets of science and our native Ukraine.
Education is another of our weapons in the war. To know the truth means to be armed against lies and propaganda. An educated nation is an invincible nation,” the Prime Minister noted.
He expressed the hope that “the new generation of Ukrainians will carry knowledge about the past and present into the future for the development and development of a free European Ukraine.”
Air raid alerts replaced school bells
Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny stressed in his congratulations that “our children matured early”.
War is for our children, unfortunately , was a reality, not a historical phenomenon. In the past six months, air raid sirens have replaced school bells,” Zaluzhny said.
However, the Commander-in-Chief stressed that the Armed Forces did and are doing everything to give our children the opportunity to live and study in Ukraine.
He turned to Ukrainian children and asked them to keep the memory of these historical events and the incredible people who close them out of trouble!
“Grow up in love for Ukraine and believe in our Victory,” Valeriy Zaluzhny asked Ukrainian children on the Day of Knowledge.
Russia took away the holiday of knowledge from 379 children
His deputy Anna Malyar published the statistics of educational institutions affected by Russian armed aggression.
We are talking about 2405 educational institutions. 270 of them are completely destroyed. They will never ring the first bell and hear children's laughter, – said Malyar.
Anna Malyar also recalled that Russia killed 379 children. Another 735 children were wounded.
Learning to play the violin online – the challenges of the military school year
Minister of Culture Alexander Tkachenko admitted that it is not easy to start the academic year in the field of culture, because learning to play the violin or draw online is a challenge.
However, it is important not to stop, because art education – from school to doctoral studies in art universities – is not only about art, it is about the ability to empathize, critically to think and generate creative solutions that our country needs both today and for its further recovery. – Tkachenko noted.
He added that, despite the fact that the invaders are trying to destroy our educational institutions, “they will not take away our thirst for knowledge as an educated nation.
