The Magistrates' Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow on Thursday, June 10, fined the Telegram messenger 10 million rubles for refusing to remove content recognized as prohibited in Russia. And the social network Facebook was fined 17 million on similar grounds.

In relation to Telegram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Google, administrative protocols have been drawn up on several occasions for refusing to remove content, allegedly calling on minors to participate in unauthorized actions.

Two years of attempts to block Telegram

In April 2018, Roskomnadzor began blocking Telegram for the refusal of its administration to provide the Federal Security Service with keys to decrypt user correspondence. In the fight against the messenger, the department restricted access to several million third-party sites, including services from Google, Amazon and Microsoft. However, Telegram has remained one of the most popular communication tools among Russians. In June 2020, the department removed all restrictions from the messenger.
