Mriya, Manticore and Iskander: Ministry of Justice named the most popular and unusual baby names in 2022

In Ukraine, there are no prohibitions and restrictions in choosing a name for newborns. Therefore, more and more often parents take a creative approach to this issue and choose unusual names, in particular, this year Javelina, Sarmat, and many more little Ukrainians and Ukrainians with original names were born.

The Ministry of Justice told how Ukrainians called babies in the second half of 2022.

The most traditional names

Most Ukrainians still prefer traditionalism in choosing a name for their babies. For the second half of 2022, the most popular female names that Ukrainians called their daughters were: Anna, Anastasia, Veronica, Sofia, Alexandra, Maria, Victoria, Milana, Solomiya, Varvara and Eva.

The most common male names were: Artem, Dmitry, Ivan, Maxim, Mikhail, Daniel, Vladislav, Alexander, Andrey.

The Ministry of Justice highlighted the most unusual names

A large number of families are trying to choose rarely used and unusual names for their babies, and 2022 was no exception – many parents approached the choice of a name for their babies creatively and, one might say, boldly. The Ministry of Justice called the most original names:

  • In particular, among the female names there are: Javelina, Mriya, Luna, Avital-Azalina, Meriela, Sladislava, Kvita, Ulpana, Manticore, Nikoloz, Rusalina and Yunia.
  • Among the men: Iskander, Volislav, Mars, Veleslav, Achilles, Sarmat, Svitozar, Nimrod, Kalep, Lars, Sarkis, Stylian, Hugo, Nicodemus, Nectarius.
