NATO Foreign Ministers discussed the introduction of sanctions against Russia in the event of aggression in Ukraine
During a meeting in Riga, NATO Foreign Ministers discussed the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia if it again shows aggression against Ukraine.
This was announced by the secretary general of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg.
– As I have already stated several times, there will be a high price that Russia will have to pay if they again use force against an independent sovereign state, Ukraine … We have demonstrated our ability to demand cost, economic and political action. And also over the years, our military presence in this region has increased, – Stoltenberg said during a briefing.
He clarified that NATO continues to demonstrate reactions, including to the previous use of military force by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and this experience made it clear that the alliance can support tough economic and financial sanctions, as well as political sanctions.
– We discussed sanctions, political measures and we saw the willingness and ability to support economic sanctions against Russia when this is necessary, – RBC-Ukraine quotes Stoltenberg.
Earlier it was reported that the United States plans to introduce a cascade of sanctions in the event of the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine.
