Zelensky will join the NATO summit in Madrid/Office of the President

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to speak at the NATO Leaders' Summit to be held in Madrid on June 28-30, 2022.

This was stated by NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joanne. At the same time, he said that the summit would be “really transformative”.

Leaders of a number of states will speak at the NATO summit for the first time

Mircea Geoane said that the leaders of Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan would speak at such a summit. He stressed that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is present at the meeting “one way or another”.

At the same time, he noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin achieved exactly the opposite of what he wanted. As a result of a full-scale war, Ukraine moved closer to the West, the Alliance's presence in the East increased, and the number of countries wishing to join the transatlantic organization increased.

He stressed that Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine is “one of the strategic and most important historical failures” for the aggressor country.

NATO defense ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine

Recently, defense ministers in Iceland NATO discussed Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. Icelandic Foreign Minister Thordis Gilfadottir no longer excludes that Russia could use direct military aggression against the NATO country.

She stressed that colleagues from the Nordic countries and the UK should be prepared for the worst-case scenario when it comes to Russia.

NATO is currently conducting large-scale military exercises involving about 3,000 troops from 17 allied countries. Among the participants: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Great Britain and the USA.

Relevant exercises are held in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia using aircraft, missile defense systems and electronic warfare.
