NATO to create space center in Ramstein due to threat from Russia

NATO will establish a space center at the US Air Force Ramstein Air Force Base due to threats from Russia and China. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this, TASS reports.

“The ministers decided to create a new NATO space center, which will ensure the exchange of space information and the protection of the alliance satellites,” Stoltenberg said. The center is needed as Russia and China are developing systems that can blind or destroy satellites. At the same time, Stoltenberg previously denied plans to withdraw NATO weapons into space.

In February 2020, the commander of the NATO Allied Forces Transformation, General André Lanata, said that Western countries are at risk in space, since there are Russian and Chinese vehicles near their satellites. At the same time, American specialists were unable to determine what functions the Russian satellite performs and to provide opposition.
