In New York, only vaccinated people are allowed in gyms. The Brooklyn Nets basketball star had spoken out against the corona vaccination several times.

Kyrie Irving will not play in the Brooklyn Nets' test home game against NBA defending champion Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. This emerges from the injury list published by the National Basketball Association on Thursday, in which Irving is listed as “not eligible to play”. This is another indication that the 29-year-old is not vaccinated against the coronavirus. In New York, only vaccinated people are allowed in gyms according to current regulations.

Should Irving be absent from all of the Nets' compulsory home games, he could lose millions of dollars.

Exceptions are only made for professionals from guest teams, but not for athletes from New York-based teams such as the Nets. Similar regulations apply in the Californian metropolises of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Irving has stated several times that he does not want to be vaccinated. At his team's media day, he was the only one who was not present in person but switched on via video and asked for privacy on the subject.

The game of the Nets against the Bucks is the team's second preparation game. The Nets won the first test against the Los Angeles Lakers without stars Kevin Durant, James Harden and Irving. “He's one of our best players and one of our leaders,” said Harden of Irving. “Of course I want him to be on the team.” The NBA season begins October 19th.
