The Ukrainian military had no expectations of a quick flight of Russians from the Right Bank of the Kherson region. The Kremlin made a political decision not to retreat – in order to “preserve the authority” of Putin.

In order for the infidels to leave their positions in the Kherson region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine must create all conditions for this. Roman Kostenko, military officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, MP, Secretary of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, told this to channel 24.

The politician stressed that there were many erroneous predictions in Ukraine that if the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroy bridges across Dnieper, the enemy will immediately leave through the pontoons.

The fact that the enemy would just start collecting things just like that – no one hoped for this: neither the soldiers on the front line, nor our command … In order for the enemy to cross to the left bank of the Dnieper, you need to force him to do it, – the military explained.

< p>In his opinion, the enemy does not have enough strength to make a breakthrough towards Nikolaev and Odessa.

“From a military point of view, it would be better for them to withdraw to the left bank of the Dnieper. The fact that they are now on the Right Bank under constant defeat is Putin's political decision, which did everything not to lose authority. Therefore, he makes his soldiers endure on the right on the banks of the Dnieper under the influence of our artillery and missile troops,” the Secretary of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada believes.

According to Kostenko, the Russians in the Kherson region still have a lot of forces and means, they can bring food for themselves, but predicts that this will not last long.

Counterattack on Kherson: what is known

• On August 29, the Ukrainian Armed Forces broke through the first line of defense of the Russian army in the Kherson region and launched a counteroffensive in many directions of the South.
• Thus, the Ukrainian military forced the 109th regiment of militants from the quasi-republic to withdraw, and Russian paratroopers fled after them.
• The OK “South” notes that for the Armed Forces of Ukraine the situation in the operational zone in the South Buzh direction complex but controlled. There are quite powerful enemy forces on the spot.
• At the same time, it becomes clear that the Russians in the territory of the Kherson region fell into a trap, because the Ukrainian defenders, with the help of HIMARS, managed to destroy almost all the major bridges in the region.
