North Macedonia goalie Dimitrievski speculates with a European Championship victory over ÖFB-Elf
For North Macedonia's soccer team goal Stole Dimitrievski, the two EM qualification defeats against Austria before the EURO duel between both teams on Sunday in Bucharest are no longer an issue. “Now we're in a tournament, that's different. Even an early goal can make all the difference,” said professional van Rayo Vallecano.
Dimitrievski is aware of the qualities of the ÖFB selection. “They have a lot of top players, especially Marko Arnautovic and David Alaba. They are strong in the game forward, this time we have to keep them under control.”
They have set themselves a high goal – in order to achieve it, Austria has to have a sense of achievement. “We need a win or at least a draw, because we want to reach the knockout phase and not just be there,” emphasized Dimitrievski.
According to the keeper, the North Macedonians have nothing to lose at their European Championship premiere. “We have no pressure at all and want to try to translate the euphoria at home into results.”
Dimitrievski draws confidence from the sensational 2-1 away win in March in the World Cup qualification against Germany. “It showed that we can beat anyone on a good day and I'm sure the other teams in the group will have a lot of respect for us,” said the 27-year-old.
