People who want to obtain Ukrainian citizenship must pass 3 exams. The corresponding decision was supported by the parliament on March 21.

“For” voted 281 elected representatives. The Ukrainians welcomed the decision and left many positive reactions.

Now people who want to obtain Ukrainian citizenship must pass the following three exams:

• on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine;
• on the history of Ukraine;
• on the level of proficiency in the state language.

Details have not yet been announced.

Earlier it was reported that there will be exceptions: certain conditions will not apply to people who have outstanding services to Ukraine, or if their citizenship is of state interest.

Historic petition sparks change

The petition for the need to pass the exams was registered in May 2022. The initiative was supported by more than 26 thousand people. Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the petition and instructed to develop an exam for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. The Ukrainian leader instructed Denys Shmyhal to comprehensively work out this issue.

Previously, in order to obtain citizenship, it was necessary to collect the necessary documents and submit an application. Anyone could do it. Even citizens of a terrorist country.

You can acquire Ukrainian citizenship:

• by birth;
• by territorial origin.

There are also options:

• acceptance into citizenship;
• renewal of citizenship.
