Odessa court stripped Russian of regional status

The Odessa Regional Administrative Court deprived the Russian language of the regional status. The press service of the court informs about it.

“The Odessa Regional Administrative Court satisfied the claim of the first deputy prosecutor of the Odessa region and declared illegal and invalid the decision of the Odessa Regional Council to establish the regional language in the Odessa region – Russian,” the message says.

In August 2012, the Odessa Regional Council assigned the status of a regional language to the Russian language.

In December 2018, the chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk stated that there is no infringement of the rights of Russian-speaking citizens in the country.
