Olympia: Germany missed a debacle
France and Argentina also lost completely surprisingly, Spain with zero number against Egypt.
Match Winner: Richarlison scored a hat trick in 23 minutes
After half an hour, Germany was 3-0 down against Brazil at the start of the men's tournament. In the new edition of the final of 2016 – at that time the organizers won gold in the penalty shootout in Rio – Richarlison mercilessly exploited the failures of the German defense. The 24-year-old Everton attacker scored in the 7th, 22nd and 30th minutes.
The selection supervised by Stefan Kuntz brought only one shot on goal before the break, but Brazil goalkeeper Santos held it without any problems. Because goalkeeper Müller parried a handler from Cunha great, the Germans only went into the locker room with 0: 3.
After the break, Amiri met (56th), but shortly afterwards, captain Arnold was excluded (62nd). Outnumbered, the Germans showed morale and came up with a header from Ache to 2: 3 (83rd). Because ten Germans were still pushing for the equalizer with a lot of risk, Paulinho made the final score of 4: 2 after a counterattack.
Injured Spaniards
The men's tournament started with a few surprises. So Spain did not get more than 0-0 against Egypt. There were also two victims of the tough Egyptian pace, Barcelona defender Óscar Mingueza and Real midfielder Dani Ceballos, injured, had to leave the pitch prematurely.
France got it even worse: The Olympic selection of the reigning world champion went down 1: 4 against Mexico. The Mexicans had Guillermo Ochoa in goal. For the 36-year-old it was the second participation in the Olympic Games after 2004 (!).
Argentina won the Copa America, but the Olympic team suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat against Australia in their first game in Japan. Argentina were 1-0 down at the break and lost Francisco Ortega after two yellow cards.
