Pashinyan reproached Putin for the inaction of the Russian

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, at a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, directly complained to him about the inaction of Russian “peacekeepers” in Karabakh. He reproached Putin for not controlling the Lachin corridor, which is critical for supplies, for 20 days.

The crisis with the Lachin corridor is aggravating

The video of Pashinyan's statement at the meeting with Putin in the Russian Museum was distributed by Russian media. Pashinyan stressed that the crisis with the Lachin corridor is his No. 1 issue.

You know that the corridor has been closed for almost 20 days. This is the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. I want to remind you that according to the tripartite statement of the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Lachin corridor should be under the control of Russian peacekeepers, Pashinyan emphasized.

He was also indignant that Azerbaijan guaranteed the unhindered passage of passengers and goods, and now it turns out that the Lachin corridor is not under the control of the Russian military.

Pashinyan added that he expects to discuss a way out of this situation with the head of the Kremlin.

Note that this is not the first critical statement to the Kremlin from Pashinyan because of the situation in the Lachin corridor. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry rejected his criticism.

What preceded this

  • On December 12, the Lachin corridor was closed to traffic, allegedly due to protest of Azerbaijani citizens demanding to stop the export of minerals from the region.
  • December 13, Azerbaijan cut off gas supplies from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh.
  • December 14, Yerevan applied to the ECtHR to order the court to oblige Baku to unblock Lachin corridor.
