PlayStation 5 production limited

Sony has planned to release fewer next-generation consoles than previously expected. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing production sources.

Insiders said that by the end of the year the Japanese corporation will receive from partners four million PlayStation 5 less than expected. Sony is expected to ship 11 million units instead of the planned 15 million. The decrease in the planned number of consoles is associated with restrictions on the production of AMD chips used in next-generation consoles.

A source on condition of anonymity said that the pace of production of new processors is gradually increasing, but has not yet reached the optimal level. Reporters contacted Sony, but a corporate spokesman declined to comment.

In July, Bloomberg sources said Sony had adjusted plans for the PS5 consoles due to increased demand for the model. The corporation decided to produce at least ten million devices by the end of the year. In the spring, Sony executives planned to order at least five million copies of consoles from suppliers.

In mid-September, Sony announced the date for the presentation of the next generation set-top box. The PS5 launch event will take place on September 16 at 23:00 Moscow time. The company promised to reveal new games for the console and reveal some details of the PlayStation 5.
