Poland's decision to provide planes to Ukraine does not encourage Biden to send F-16s, – White House
The United States does not plan to send American F-16 multirole fighters to Ukraine. The decision of Poland to transfer Soviet MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine did not affect Washington's position either.
Poland's decision to send Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine was commented on by John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council. He stressed that this is a “sovereign decision” that will not push President Joe Biden to send American F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
Kirby refused to approve Poland's decision
Biden said that the supply of American fighters is not yet considered, although he did not rule out such a possibility.
According to John Kirby, Poland's promise to send four fighter jets, which is a retreat from other NATO partners, does not change that decision.
This does not change our calculations for the F-16. This is a sovereign decision of any country, and we respect these sovereign decisions,” he said.
Kirby added that Poland “can determine not only what they're going to give, but how they're going to characterize it.”
At the same time, a representative of the US National Security Council declined to approve the decision, saying that, in his opinion, America should not “characterize Poland's decision in one way or another.”
Poland will transfer MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine: what is known
- Poland and Slovakia officially agreed to the general transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. The head of the Office of the President of Poland, Pavel Schrot, said that we are talking about a small number of aircraft.
- On March 16, Duda announced that in the coming days, Poland would transfer four MiG-29 combat aircraft to Ukraine for full operation. Note that Ukraine has armed MiG-29 aircraft.
- However, the Ukrainian Air Force needs the American F-16 multi-purpose aircraft. By and large, this type of aircraft will be able to replace a significant part of the aviation that is now in Ukraine.
- Air Force Speaker Yuriy Ignat, in an exclusive interview with Channel 24, emphasized that the F-16 is the priority choice for Ukraine . According to him, these aircraft are needed, first of all, to protect against Russian terrorist missile attacks on peaceful settlements and critical infrastructure.
- F-16s will become a significant component of the overall air defense. Aircraft stationed in Ukraine are not as effective in combating missile attacks, as well as Russia's more modern fleet.
