Political scientist John Denis predicted a radical change in US foreign policy after the coming to power of Democrat Joe Biden. It is reported by “Interfax”.
A professor at the US Army War College believes that Biden will reverse the decision announced by the administration of President Donald Trump to withdraw some of the American troops from Germany. In his opinion, the revision of NATO policy will be one of the most significant and quickest steps in the field of national security after January 20, 2021.
Denis stressed that the decision to withdraw 12,000 American soldiers from Germany to neighboring countries and the United States was not only short-sighted, but also ill-considered financially.
Earlier in Germany, the prime ministers of four states – Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate – asked in a joint letter to 13 American congressmen to prevent Trump's plans to withdraw the American military from their country.
On July 29, US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced that the Pentagon would withdraw from Germany about 11.9 thousand troops stationed there, and also move the headquarters of the US European Command to Belgium. Of the displaced military, about 5.6 thousand will go to other NATO countries, and another 6.4 thousand will return to the United States and will stay in Europe on a rotational basis.
