Moscow. July 29. INTERFAX.RU – The American aerospace company Rocket Lab launched a satellite into Earth's orbit for the needs of the US Department of Defense using an Electron launch vehicle, follows from the company's broadcast.

The rocket was launched at 9:00 Moscow time from the Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1, located on the Mahia Peninsula in New Zealand. The satellite was launched into orbit at 9:53 am.

This launch was the 21st for Electron and the second in the US Department of Defense's space test program. It is assumed that the satellite will be used for reconnaissance and observation purposes. A similar satellite was launched in May 2019.

In May 2021, the launch of Electron with two monitoring satellites for BlackSky was unsuccessful – when the first stage was separated, the second stage engine stalled.
