Smartphones may catch fire while charging due to incorrect power adapter. Sergey Kuzmenko, a senior specialist in testing digital products of Roskachestvo, named this reason on the air of Sputnik radio.
He recalled that when buying a charger, you must take into account the technical characteristics of the gadget. So, a standard power adapter for charging has 5 volts and 1.5 amperes at the output. In addition, there are adapters with fast charging technology – quick charge – with increased power consumption. However, the same power must be supported by the device itself – this information can be obtained from the technical specifications of the smartphone.
“At best, such an initiative will lead to burnout of the battery, and at worst, to the fire of the device itself,” Kuzmenko warned.
This rule also applies to the use of portable chargers. “In China, such external batteries are made, where there are two outputs. The user looks that one device has an output for 5 volts and 10 volts, he thinks that it charges 10 faster and plugs the cord into it, “he gave an example. As a result, after a year of using portable charging, the battery on the smartphone loses its capacity – much faster than when charging from 5 volts, the Roskachestvo specialist concluded.
Earlier, Kuzmenko told in which case it is impossible to charge a smartphone. According to him, it is forbidden to connect a gadget to a power device if the gadget's battery is swollen. It is also not recommended to connect the gadget to a charger if the phone was lying in direct scorching rays and heated up, or if it is wet.
