Roskomnadzor began to create a register of social networks under the law on self-control

Roskomnadzor has begun to form a register of social networks, which is designed to monitor compliance with the requirements of Russian legislation. The new register has already included YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Likee, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. This was announced on Wednesday, September 22, by the press service of the department.

Recall that at the end of 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on large social networks, which include sites with traffic of more than 500 thousand users per day.

According to the adopted document, such social networks must create a representative office in the Russian Federation, and are also obliged to moderate content, block incitement to hatred, discrediting inaccurate data and other illegal information. The law came into force on February 1, 2021.

According to Roskomnadzor, in accordance with the previously adopted law, Internet sites must themselves identify and block prohibited information, and they are also obliged to notify their users about restrictions on its content and take appropriate measures according to the orders of the department.

The department has already sent a notification to the companies.
