Roskomnadzor fined Twitter 4 million rubles
The social network Twitter was fined 4 million rubles for non-compliance with Russian legislation, the press service of Roskomnadzor reports.
In total, ten reports on administrative offenses were drawn up. To date, the courts have considered all the protocols. The total amount of fines for non-deletion of prohibited information amounted to about 27.9 million rubles. For non-compliance with the requirements of Russian legislation on data localization – 4 million rubles.
The agency also reported that Facebook and Instagram have not removed more than 3.7 thousand prohibited materials since 2015.
Earlier, the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov commented on Roskomnadzor's requirements for Twitter and YouTube. He stated that this is not an attempt to influence media resources, but a legal requirement for content.
Prior to that, it was reported that Roskomnadzor may apply traffic restriction measures to Facebook and YouTube, similar to those used in relation to Twitter, since cases of posting prohibited materials were revealed on these resources.
