Rospotrebnadzor assessed the risk of a new wave of COVID-19 due to the mu strain
The likelihood that the mu strain of coronavirus could cause new waves of disease on the planet is very small. This opinion was expressed in an interview with RIA Novosti by Kamil Khafizov, head of the research group for the development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Central Research Institute.
The Rospotrebnadzor expert clarified that this strain has already manifested itself in 50 countries and is included in the list of SARS-CoV2 varieties that are monitored by WHO. At the same time, according to various sources, the rate of its spread is much lower than that of the Indian “delta”, the scientist noted.
He also confirmed that no cases of the disease associated with this mutation of the coronavirus have yet been found in Russia.
Scientists from the United States also concluded that the mu strain of the coronavirus is less aggressive than the delta strain.
American virologists believe that with the emergence of new waves of COVID-19, the “delta” strain and its “sub-strains” will continue to dominate, because it is the most infectious.
