Russia assessed relations with the United States after Trump
Moscow does not expect anything good from the administration of the new US President Joe Biden. So the prospects for bilateral relations after the departure of Donald Trump were assessed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, quoted by the Interfax news agency.
Ryabkov said the Trump administration left a heavy legacy to the next president. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry doubts that Biden's team is determined to create a “healthy basis” for dialogue with Russia. “We are not expecting anything good. And it would be strange to expect good things from people who, many of them, made their careers on Russophobia and on throwing mud at my country, ”he said.
However, the diplomat noted that Moscow is still interested in the gradual normalization of relations with Washington. “Although we are also realists, and it will be very difficult to get out of the storm of problems in which relations have found themselves as a result of the reckless actions of the American side for many years,” he said.
On December 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Biden on his victory in the presidential election. In the telegram, the Russian leader wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States “can, despite their differences, really contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing.”
