Russia delivered humanitarian aid to Cuba through the UN
Within the framework of the UN World Food Program (WFP), Russia supplied Cuba with almost 700 tons of food, TASS reports.
“The food aid delivered today is a true reflection of the sincere friendship and longstanding relationship of solidarity that unites Russia and Cuba. This support of the friendly Cuban people is very important both in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and in a situation exacerbated by the unprecedented increase in the economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the Island of Freedom, ”said Russian Ambassador to Cuba Andrei Guskov.
Cuban officials were also present at the ceremony to hand over food to the Island of Freedom, as well as WFP Cuban Representative Paolo Mattei.
In total, Russia transferred to Cuba 253 tons of sunflower oil and 430 tons of fortified wheat flour worth about $ 1 million. Of the $ 11 million that Russia donated to Cuba under WFP, part of the money will go, among other things, to support the school feeding system for the period 2020-2024.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that Russia expects to develop a constructive dialogue with Cuba
