Russia is not on the list: EU opens borders for new country

Russia was not included in the list of countries recommended to the EU countries for mutual opening of borders, RIA Novosti reports.

Japan was added to the updated list of the Council of the European Union on June 3. Previously, it already included 8 states: Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and China. Travel restrictions are lifted provided that the countries on their list are also willing to open their borders to EU citizens.

On May 20, the European Union relaxed the criteria for lifting restrictions on the entry of citizens from third countries. To be included in the list of countries recommended for opening the borders, it is necessary that the number of new cases of coronavirus in this country within two weeks does not exceed 75 per 100 thousand people. Previously, this figure was not supposed to exceed 25 people per 100 thousand. In addition, the vaccination process of the population is now taken into account when compiling the list.

The list of the Council of the European Union is not obligatory for the member states of the European Union, not all countries of the union adhere to them.

For example, from May 14, Greece has canceled all restrictions on the entry of tourists, including for Russians.
