Russia is working on offensive biological weapons, - Pentagon

The United States has said that Russia is developing offensive biological weapons. At the same time, the Kremlin continues to actively blame Ukraine for similar activities in order to cover its tracks.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a briefing that Russia is developing offensive biological weapons. His report is published on the official website of the US government.

The Russians are developing offensive biological weapons

Despite the fact that the development and maintenance of biological weapons is a violation of the Biological Weapons Convention, the Kremlin has not abandoned this program.

The United States believes that Russia continues to support the offensive bioweapons program in violation of its obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention, Price said.

He noted that in an attempt to justify its aggression, Russia is spreading fakes about the so-called biological weapons laboratories in Ukraine. The Soviet Union did the same.

Russia, like the Soviet Union, has been making false claims about biological weapons for decades in an attempt to instill distrust in global peace efforts and public health institutions countering biological threats, a State Department spokesman said.

Since 2022, the number of fakes about biological weapons has increased significantly

Ned Price noted that since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the intensity of propaganda and disinformation about biological weapons from the Russians has increased significantly. He explained that the Kremlin was trying to divert attention from its invasion of Ukraine, reduce international support for Ukraine and “justify its unjustified war.”

To do this, the Kremlin has created media outlets controlled by it, information sites linked to Russian intelligence, and specially invented “experts”.

These entities work together to constantly drip false narratives into the information environment in order to create the illusion of a large number of voices repeating each other. The Kremlin is also feeding these narratives to the people of Russia in an attempt to create a false reality in which it was allegedly “forced” to intervene to protect Russian citizens from external enemies, Price added.
