NATO Secretary General insists that Moscow withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory. At the same time, NATO promises to provide Ukraine with as much assistance as needed. However, the Alliance does not want to become part of the conflict.

This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a briefing following the results of the Alliance's summit in Madrid. The next forum, the Secretary General stressed, will be held in Lithuania in 2023.

Russia must immediately stop the war in Ukraine

NATO insists that Russia should immediately withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, the Alliance sets itself the task of preventing a direct armed confrontation between the organization and Moscow.

According to Stoltenberg, this possible conflict could entail huge losses and losses. As for assistance to Ukraine, the Alliance countries are the only ones in this: they will provide it as much as necessary.

NATO intends to rearm Ukraine

Stoltenberg noted: in order to effectively resist the aggressor, the Ukrainian army needs re-equip – from Soviet models to modern ones. The Alliance will help with this.

Important! Stoltenberg assured that there is no list of weapons that are prohibited from being transferred to Ukraine. Previously, the media wrote about certain agreements between NATO member countries.

What was agreed upon at the NATO summit

  • Sweden and Finland were invited to join the Alliance. This protocol will be signed on July 5.
  • NATO has adopted a new strategic concept, according to which Russia is the biggest threat.
  • The leaders of the organization have agreed on a new aid package for Ukraine.
  • At the same time, Jens Stoltenberg avoided answering the question about possible Ukrainian membership, noting that the door is always open.
