The Arctic airfield Nagurskoye, after the commissioning of a new runway, will be able to accept any class of aircraft. Major General Igor Churkin, Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Air Defense Army, told reporters about this.

According to him, now Russia will be able to deploy strategic bombers there, for example, of the Tu-95 type.

– The airfield was commissioned last year, the length of the runway is 3.5 thousand meters. Thanks to this, the airfield will be able to receive all classes of aircraft, Churkin explained.

He also added that the improvement of the airfield network in the Arctic means the possibility of using the aviation of the Northern Fleet to control the airspace in the water area of the Northern Sea Route, and will also ensure the safety of this transport artery from the air.
