Russian scientists predicted over 20 thousand cases of COVID-19 infection per day

Russian scientists have announced a possible peak in the increase in the incidence of coronavirus since June 30. Mathematicians from St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) predicted that from the end of this month, more than 20 thousand cases of infection per day could be detected, Izvestia writes.

They updated their own COVID-19 incidence outlook. They indicated that after the peak, there will be a decrease to 15-16 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection per day.

As Viktor Zakharov, Head of the Department of Mathematical Modeling of Energy Systems of St. Petersburg State University, Head of the Center for Intellectual Logistics of St. Petersburg State University, explained, the experts corrected the data.

“The peak of the incidence is still possible on June 30, its height will be about 21 thousand. And the number of patients is about 420 thousand. Then the incidence rate will begin to decline to 15-16 thousand new cases, ”he said.

According to Zakharov, the number of active cases of COVID-19 by mid-July can be set at around 522 thousand sick.

According to the latest data, 5,316,826 cases of coronavirus have been registered in Russia, 4,869,972 people have recovered, and 129,361 patients have died.
