The full-scale invasion of Russian troops on the morning of February 24 sets Crimean society on fire. The mood is different.

Society in the temporarily occupied Crimea is very complex. Refat Chubarov, head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, said this on air on Channel 24.

According to him, some people remain pro-Russian and hate Ukraine. This category of citizens has certain fears and concerns.

They (the Russians, the pro-Russian population – Channel 24) think that this stage of the war will end with the liberation of Crimea by Ukraine. They are very afraid of this,” Chubarov emphasized.

He explained that these people were trying to find confirmation that such a development would not be possible. Therefore, they rely on frenzied Russian propaganda, which is now very common in Crimea.

The pro-Russian population is much smaller, – Chubarov

Those people who remain pro-Russian want everyone to talk about supporting Vladimir Putin, the Russian army, and that Ukraine should not exist.

“However, pro-Russian people are a small part. They are much smaller than Moscow claims. Most of them are those people who who are silent and waiting,” Chubarov said.

He explained that a large number of them in their hearts think that Ukraine's sovereignty will be restored, so they try to distance themselves as far as possible from the occupying authorities and ardent prominent propagandists.

There is also a category of those who never accepted the Russian occupation, remained loyal to Ukraine. These people are horrified by the destruction, but they are sure that the Russian-Ukrainian war must necessarily end with the liberation of Crimea.
