Google tracks users using a special service. Sergey Bodrov, project manager of the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo, spoke about this in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The expert recalled the Google Timeline service, which records the places where the user was at a given time. The data is collected based on information from GPS in smartphones. “Hacking Google Timeline by an outsider can lead to the compromise of personal information,” Bodrov said. Given that the services of an American company are interconnected, hacking one will allow access to others.
The specialist recommended that users turn off the tracking function. To turn off the service and delete your location history, you need to go to your Google or Google Maps account settings, then go to the “Personal data” tab and find “History” there. Also in the profile settings, you can turn off the “History of applications and web search”.
At the same time, Bodrov said that Google is not the only company that collects data about users. “If you want to completely get rid of surveillance, you need to buy a push-button telephone,” the specialist concluded.
Earlier, employees of the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo said that a smartphone can provide a lot of information about a user, for example, about a place of rest, visiting certain places. “The only question is who exactly owns this information,” the specialists emphasized.
