Scientists are looking for bacteria for disposal of masks – Izvestia
Russian researchers are looking for bacteria that can effectively degrade polypropylene, which is the main component of medical masks, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
It is noted that the research is being carried out by employees of the Kuban State University.
According to scientists, after the bacteria are found, it will be possible to develop a biological product that allows you to dispose of masks without harm to nature. It is assumed that it will be a combination of such microorganisms.
Three types of soil are tested for the presence of the necessary bacteria. We are talking about urban soil (typical for the city), black soil and coastal soil.
Experts interviewed by the publication called the development relevant, but did not rule out that if such bacteria “get out of control”, difficulties may arise with the use of things made of plastic.
Earlier it was reported that American scientists have developed a prototype mask that allows you to determine whether the person wearing it has a coronavirus.
