Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that a new aggressive strain of coronavirus is operating in the capital, which spreads faster than others, and is harder to tolerate. According to him, the “new challenge” complicates the epidemic and economic situation.
“Unfortunately, what we fought last year, the Chinese virus, the Wuhan virus, is practically nonexistent in Moscow today; a new mutation has come, a new strain is acting. It is more aggressive, more difficult to tolerate, spreads faster. It penetrates much more human immunity, ”said Mr. Sobyanin at a meeting with entrepreneurs in the catering sector (quoted by TASS).
The mayor added that the severe effect of the new strain of the virus leads to more hospitalizations, “which means more beds will be needed, more hospitals, more difficult to fight.”
The head physician of the hospital in Kommunarka Denis Protsenko called the increase in the incidence in the capital the third wave of coronavirus. Today, June 17, 6195 new cases of infection were detected in Moscow.
